An Enugu Air aircraft with registration number, 5N-ENR, this afternoon safely crash-landed at the Benin Airport in Edo State.
Details reported by Business Hilights.ng Benin Bureau Chief showed that the incident occurred during a commercial flight operating the Enugu–Benin–Lagos route.
Upon landing at the airport runway, the aircraft—an Embraer regional jet experienced a runway excursion, overshooting the runway and skidding into a nearby muddy, vegetated area.
Whereas no casualties or injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, all the 68 passengers and the crew members on board successfully escaped unhurt.
As at the time of filing this report, emergency response teams from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had swiftly deployed to the scene to secure the aircraft and evacuate everyone safely using apron buses.
Already, Enugu Air had issued an official statement confirming the runway excursion, reassuring the public that the aircraft had been secured, and apologizing for the schedule disruptions.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and relevant aviation regulators have been notified to launch a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident
