Southeast Decries Marginalization as Tinubu Bags Region into one Military Division

As all other geopolitical zones of the country are rejoicing for the unbundling of the Nigeria Army into 12 Divisions because they got not less than two, Southeast is not happy because they were bagged into only one division.

The bagging into one division is coming less than one week the Southeast Governor passed a resolution to support and vote for President Tinubu in his secoudn term bid.

A closer look at the divisions showed that even as several neighbouring two states were given a Military Division including Lagos and Ogun, Borno and Yobe, Kwara and Niger, Taraba and Adamawa, the entire Igbo States of Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi and Abia were bundled into one Military Division to be commanded from Enugu.

Further checks showed that some divisions are made up of only three states which include Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe, Benue Nasarawa and Kogi, Edo, Delta and Bayelsa.

Also several analysts with sane minds devoid of segregation argued that it would have been better to group Enugu and Anambra State into one Division while the remaining three states of Imo, Abia and Ebonyi be another Military Division for the sake of equity and balance.

1. 1 Division Headquarters, Kaduna: Covers Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States.
2. 2 Division Headquarters, Ibadan: Covers Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States.
3. 3 Division Headquarters, Jos: Covers Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe States.
4. 5 Division Headquarters, Makurdi: Covers Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi States.
5. 6 Division Headquarters, Port Harcourt: Covers Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.
6. 7 Division Headquarters, Maiduguri: Covers Borno and Yobe States.
7. 8 Division Headquarters, Sokoto: Covers Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States.
8. 9 Division Headquarters, Ilorin: Covers Kwara and Niger States.
9. 10 Division Headquarters, Jalingo: Covers Taraba and Adamawa States.
10. 81 Division Headquarters, Lagos: Covers Lagos and Ogun States.
11. 82 Division Headquarters, Enugu: Covers Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Imo States.
12. 83 Division Headquarters, Benin City: Covers Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States.

Several observers on social media, they expressed dissatisfaction, saying Southeast was truly belittled and marginalized in the divisions.

One of them said “Only Southeast is forced together. Even Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River got one division. Lagos and Ogun one division. Several northern states are in twos as a division.

Another said “Tinubu only extended the marginalisation of Ndigbo upon the likes of Uzodimma, Ben Kanu and all those praise singers and useless mandate. Enugu and Anambra are big enough to be one division so that Imo, Abia and Ebonyi be in one division.

Another queried “Who and who did this divisions first of all. Is it his family members or Kitchen Cabinet because there was no time we hear of Army divisions at the National Assembly.

Another averred that “I may be wrong, but I think it’s not balanced… The whole of South East got only one division… What was the parameters for the unbundling?

We are still marginalized with division. How can the entire south east states have just division while Lagos and Ogun got one? Kwara and Niger got one. Even Taraba and Adamawa also got one division?

Another stressed that “Nigerians need to see the templates used in this military divisions or they should forget it.”
