The newly constituted Management Board of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), on Thursday, 15th May, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room.
Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the newly inaugurated Management Board of the Teaching Hospital, led by its Chairman, Dr. Ezinne C. Kalu, describing the visit as a clear demonstration of cordiality and a commitment to fostering a productive working relationship between the University Management and the Teaching Hospital Board.
Professor Okeudo emphasized the critical role of the Teaching Hospital in the training of the University’s medical students, noting that after completing their academic coursework, students proceed to ABSUTH for clinical training, where they acquire the practical skills and experience necessary to become competent medical professionals.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the presence of a functional and proactive Management Board is essential for the continued growth and development of the Teaching Hospital. He expressed confidence that the newly constituted Board would contribute significantly towards repositioning ABSUTH for greater progress and assured members of the University Management’s unwavering support and cooperation.
Professor Okeudo further encouraged the Board to leverage their positions to attract funding and strategic support for the Teaching Hospital, emphasizing that adequate funding, sound policies, and effective oversight are indispensable for sustainable institutional growth and improved healthcare delivery.
He also prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and expertise for the Board members as they undertake the important responsibility of repositioning the institution for greater excellence.
Earlier in her remarks, the Chairman of the ABSUTH Management Board, Dr. Ezinne C. Kalu, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for the warm reception accorded the delegation.
She also conveyed profound appreciation to the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, for entrusting them with the opportunity to serve in this important capacity.
Dr. Kalu noted that ABSUTH has evolved beyond being merely a patient-care centre to becoming a vital hub for medical knowledge, clinical training, and professional development. She affirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening institutional governance, fostering strategic partnerships with both public and private stakeholders, and ensuring the continuous advancement of the Teaching Hospital.
She commended the staff of the Teaching Hospital for their resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment to service, while assuring the University Management of the Board’s support and sustained collaboration.
In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and member of the newly constituted ABSUTH Management Board, Professor Gazie Okpara, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for granting prompt approval for the meeting and commended members of the Board for taking time to engage with the University Management.
