President Bola Ahmed Tinubu coming down or going into a vehicle?
The Permanent Secretary of State House, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, Mr. Temitope Fashedemi has revealed that the completion of solar power gird at the Presidential Villa gulped the total of all N17bn, saying all is set to disconnect from the national grid in coming days.
Fashedemi explained before lawmakers that the solar installation was completed towards the end of 2025 and had been undergoing technical evaluation ahead of a full cutover.
According to him, “The solar installation at the Villa was completed toward the end of 2025 and has remained under technical evaluation. We are hopeful that by March we will be able to effect a full cutover.”
The Perm Sec further revealed that the project received 10 billion naira in the 2025 budget under a programme tagged “Solarisation of the Villa with Solar Mini Grid”. A further 7 billion naira was allocated in the 2026 budget, bringing total funding to about 17 billion naira.
He noted that the move is aimed at reducing energy costs and ensuring a more reliable electricity supply for the presidential complex, which has historically relied on a combination of grid power and diesel generators.
Currently, Nigerians are divided as the solar project has attracted both praise and criticism. Supporters view it as a practical investment in renewable energy and energy security, while critics argue it reflects a lack of confidence in the country’s electricity network.
Already, many have started remembering one of electoral promises of President Bola Tinubu concerning power, especially when he said if I don’t give you steady electricity, don’t vote for me if I come for second term.
