The Executive Chairman of Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice R. Okoye, FCA, has given fresh insights on how to avoid making wrong tax or levy payments.
Speaking in an interview with Business Hilights.ng, he said “Responsible tax payment contributes to development, but every taxpayer deserves clear and accurate information before making any payment.
According to him, before you pay, confirm these three things:
✅ The authority: Is the demand from an officially recognised revenue agency?
✅ The payment channel: Is the payment being made through an approved and verifiable platform rather than an unverified account?
✅ The evidence: Will you receive an official receipt or proof of payment?
Okoye explained further that “Tax administration should not be confusing or intimidating. It should be transparent, accountable and easy for citizens and businesses to understand. Our commitment is to continue simplifying revenue processes, improving taxpayer education and building a system based on trust and responsible public service”.
