Many Nigerians have continued to query the rationale behind the planned construction of Lagos-Abuja railway projects with high-speed bullet train, saying the route lack economic sense and traffic to defend the humongous project after all.
However, President Bola Tinubu, is set to launch the construction of Lagos-Abuja railway projects with high-speed bullet train.
There had been questions on who and who will make the traffic considering that Lagos to Abuja has the lowest traffic volume when compared to Lagos to Onitsha.
Some political pundits say the idea is to further build a bond between the West and the North, leaving away the East from the scheme of rail hegemony in Nigeria.
Available details on the scheme showed that the construction phase is expected to last between 48 and 52 months.
According to the Director of Operations at Geofocus Consortium, Engineer Yinka Idris, the project aim to reduce travel time between the two cities from 12 hours to just 2-3 hours
“Currently, travelers between Lagos and Abuja face long hours in traffic, safety concerns, and reduced productivity.” He said.
“An independent power plant will also be constructed to support the train and surrounding infrastructure,” Idris added.
The country transportation sector is poised for a significant transformation with the introduction of the High-Speed Bullet Train as the project has completed its feasibility studies and secured proof of funds.
It now awaits approvals from the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).
