My very dear friend, sister and colleague in the Executive Council of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), Madam Vice President, Dr. Michele Mekeme, has just been confirmed a Professor of Communication and Information Science by the University of Yaounde II in the Republic of Cameroon.
Michele, a multilingual communication specialist, academic, and teacher, obtained a Ph.D. in Communication from Russian Friendship University. She speaks and writes fluently in Russian, French, and English.
A distinguished, dedicated public relations academic and practitioner with an impressive 20-year track record of excellence, Michele is at the centre of didactic experiences of hundreds of students under her academic, teaching and research tutelage at the Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC), the second State (public) University in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Prof. Mekeme continued to share her expertise with students, teaching public relations and communication courses in many other universities in Cameroon and beyond.
In professional practice, Michele enthusiastically shares her trove of experiences in communication consulting, often leading numerous high-profile projects and providing strategic, niche guidance to clients. She had served in senior management capacities in her professional journey in the private sector before refocusing on full-time life in academia, where she has equally made a significant impact.
A prolific researcher, Michele, has published several papers in local and international journals, showcasing her expertise, particularly in public relations and communication.
Throughout her career, Michele has demonstrated exceptional leadership, academic rigour, and professional acumen, making her a respected figure in the field of public relations and communication.
In keeping with APRA ExCo’s Distributed Leadership Paradigm of governance, Michele has been amazing in anchoring the expansion of the democratic space programme, a leg of the tripodal programmatic pledge our Council made during our election in Abidjan last year.
I invite you all, dear friends, to join me, the President of APRA, Arik Karani, and former president and member of the Executive Council, Chief Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, in congratulating Prof. Michele Mekeme.
*Dr. Ibietan, a Senior Staff of NCC, wrote in from Abuja.
