Vozinha, Cape Verde keeper in World Cup
Cape Verde World Cup hero, Vozinha broke down in tears after helping his country earn their first point in the competition against Spain.
The goalkeeper made seven saves and kept a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw, but his emotions after the final whistle were largely connected to his family.
Vozinha explained that he was raised by his grandparents, who passed away a few years ago and could not witness the special moment. His mother was also unable to attend because of visa difficulties and the money required to complete the process on time.
“I cried after the game because I grew up with my grandparents when I was a kid, and they could not be there,” he said.
Vozinha had already played an important role in Cape Verde’s historic qualification for the World Cup.
His performance against Spain added another memorable chapter, although the people he wished could have witnessed it were absent.
