ABSU Executive |Council hosting officials of State Fire Service recently
Dependable indications have emerged on the chances a fire station at Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, to enhance emergency fire response services within the University community.
This development was disclosed during a courtesy visit by officials of the Abia State Homeland Security, Fire and Medical Emergencies Agency to the Vice-Chancellor in his office.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely, especially in view of the fire incidents previously experienced by the University.
He further commended the Governor of Abia State and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, for his prompt response to the request by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, Ph.D., for the establishment of a fire station within the University. The Vice-Chancellor noted that the visit by the Homeland Security, Fire and Medical Emergencies team was a clear indication of the State Government’s commitment to ensuring the speedy realization of the project.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, Fire and Medical Emergencies and leader of the delegation, Chukwunenye Nwaogu Alajemba, explained that the team was in the University to explore opportunities for collaboration towards establishing a fire station and strengthening security presence to serve the entire University community.
Following the meeting, the team toured various locations within the University to identify a suitable site for the proposed fire station.
Members of the University Management team, the Chief Security Officer (CSO), and other staff were present during the meeting.
