The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, has pledged the unrelenting support of his administration to the new Army Commanding Officer and other security agencies working within the University Community.
The Vice-Chancellor made this pledge during a courtesy visit by the new Commanding Officer of the 143 Battalion, Ovim, Isuikwuato, to his office. He noted that the presence of the military and other security personnel has drastically reduced the security challenges along the Okigwe–Uturu Road.
While thanking the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, for the new strategies introduced by his administration to combat insecurity in the State, the Vice-Chancellor charged the Army Commander to continue motivating his officers and men to discharge their duties diligently, efficiently, and effectively, stressing that this would help achieve the primary objectives of their deployment.
The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that there would be a holistic review of the allowances given to the military personnel in appreciation of their untiring services. He also stated that the University would consider holding consultations on the construction of a building to accommodate the personnel. He thanked the Commanding Officer for taking time out of his busy schedule to familiarize himself with the University Management.
Earlier in his address during the visit, the Commanding Officer of the 143 Battalion (Rangers), Ovim, Isuikwuato, Lt. Col. A. M. Rabe, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and his Management Team for the warm reception accorded him. He stated that his visit was aimed at strengthening the existing collaboration between the Battalion and the University, maintaining peace and serenity, and enhancing security within the area. He assured the Vice-Chancellor that one of his key priorities would be to ensure adequate security presence along the axis in order to safeguard lives and property.
He commended the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering commitment to security and further providing emergency hotline numbers to facilitate prompt response whenever necessary.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings, mercy, and protection upon the University Management and the military personnel as they continue to discharge their responsibilities diligently.
