Executive Chairman of Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice Okoye, FCA and Gov. Hope Uzodimma
The Chairman of Imo State Internal revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice R. Okoye (FCA), has once again, called on Imo State citizens both personal and corporate to support the government with seamless payment of their taxes as and when due to enable the state deliver critical infrastructures and services.
Explaining the need to support government with taxes, he stressed that “Under the purposeful leadership of Hope Uzodimma, Imo State has delivered a powerful statement of fiscal discipline and responsible governance. Emerging as Nigeria’s number one state in domestic debt reduction, while also recording the second-lowest poverty rate in 2025, this is not luck it is leadership backed by strategy, innovation, and execution.
“According to the Debt Management Office, Imo State led the nation by reducing its domestic debt by a remarkable ₦42.40 billion between December 2024 and December 2025 outperforming all other states and standing tall among the 22 states that achieved debt reduction within the period.
“A major driver of this success is the bold digitalization of the tax system a forward-thinking innovation that has transformed revenue collection across the state. By leveraging technology, we have improved transparency, blocked leakages, enhanced compliance and made tax payment more seamless for citizens and businesses. The result is clear: Imo recorded its highest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) since its creation in 1976.
“This is what happens when vision meets discipline and innovation fuels growth.
“Congratulations, Your Excellency Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma, for steering Imo State toward financial stability, economic growth and improved living standards for our people. Your leadership continues to inspire confidence and deliver measurable results.
