Gov. Alex Otti of Abia State
The government of Abia State has put paid to its strategic efforts in driving the development of a port city in the state.
Already, a technical team from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited has commenced feasibility and hydrographic surveys for the proposed Obeaku Seaport in Abia State.
The team, accompanied by senior officials of the state government, visited Ukwa East Local Government Area to assess the waterways and carry out bathymetric and navigational studies aimed at determining the viability of the project.
During the inspection, the Aku of Obeaku Kingdom, HRH Eze Ikeagwuchi Ekeke, reaffirmed the community’s full support for the project. He noted that the community has already donated over 2,000 plots of land and remains committed to ensuring the successful execution of the seaport.
He also emphasized that the project should be officially named “Obeaku Seaport,” rather than “Azumini-Obeaku Seaport,” reflecting the identity of the host community.
State government officials described the survey as a major milestone, noting that the project is expected to boost economic activity, create jobs, and strengthen maritime trade in Abia State and the wider South-East region.
