For the records, constitutional amendment is always necessary for every association after every 10 years due to changes and developments that need to be taken care of in line with evolving realities.
No doubt, the last constitutional amendment in Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPMDA), Lagos International Trade Fair complex, was in 2016 under the able leadership of Chief Dr. DC Oforkansi (Ozo-Ebubedike Ndigbo).
The advantages of that amendment are everywhere in the plaza. ASPMDA witnessed unprecedented reforms and seeable development projects including construction of urinary points at different places, building of ASPMDA Hospital, ASPMDA Eye and Dental Centre, ASPMDA new gate and several others.

It is very important to understand that while ASPMDA 2006 Constitution introduced two years of two terms, ASPMDA 2016 Constitution ushered in one term of four year in which development analysts see as very undemocratic and far away from current realities of modern democratic systems and therefore, there is the need for ASPMDA 2026 Constitution which will address critical issue of tenure, recognise strategic isnstitutions and raise the bar of good governance and seamless leadership in the association. ASPMDA Constitution has a 10 year cycle system and it is very important not to delay or do anything that will stop amendment this year for the good of the association.
It is also important to state clearly that anyone opposed to the review of the ASPMDA Constitution is not acting in the best interest of the association because the association is in need of aligning with current realities in terms of democracy and global leadership standards.
Every ASPMDAian must understand that the Constitution is the supreme document that binds, guides, and protects every member for the progress and future growth of every association.
Reviewing it from time to time is not a crime; rather, it is a necessary step towards strengthening our institution and addressing emerging challenges.
Currently many of the issues confronting ASPMDA today exist because certain important provisions were never properly enshrined in the Constitution, certain timelines were not contained, and some key institutions within ASPMDA are yet to be recognized by the law.
A responsible association must continually improve its laws to meet present realities and safeguard the future.
Like a growing association, those who genuinely love ASPMDA should support constitutional review aimed at promoting accountability, good governance, peace, and progress.
ASPMDA members must remain vigilant and refuse to allow self-centered individuals drag the association backward again.
ASPMDA is currently in need of a constitution that aligns with current realities, recognizes strategic institutions of the association, and gives broader leadership which will improve the live and businesses of members.
The time for the constitutional amendment in ASPMDA is now. All that is needed now is full support for the current administration, under Hon. Ngozi Emechebe to drive the amendment and give ASPMDA a befitting law book that can be seen as being in line with current realities.
