Officials of CITN, Owerri District giving IIRS Chairman a T-Shirt for Complaince Walk during a visit to IIRS
The Chartered institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Owerri District has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Imo State Internal revenue service (IIRS), Mr. Justice R. Okoye (FCA).
The CITN delegation led by the chairman of the District, Mr. Josh Udoh Okereke (FCTI) thanked the Okoye for enhancing cooperation between both bodies.
Responding to the courtesy visit, elated Okoye said “Today, in commemoration of National Tax Awareness Day (NTAD), the delegation of the CITN alongside staff of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service – IIRS embarked on a Tax Walk and Sensitization Campaign across the streets of Owerri”.
He told Business Hilights.ng that “The exercise was aimed at educating and enlightening citizens on the importance of voluntary tax compliance, fostering a culture of responsible tax payment, and creating awareness about the new tax regime. Through direct engagement with residents, business owners, and stakeholders, we reinforced the message that taxes remain a vital tool for sustainable development, improved infrastructure, and better public services.

Okoye made it clear that “A tax-compliant society is a prosperous society. Together, let us continue to build a stronger and more developed Imo State through voluntary compliance and active participation in nation-building.
He added that the Tax Walk/sensitization campaign round the streets of Owerri was amongst other things, to enlighten citizens on the Importance of Voluntary Compliance and the new tax regime.
