ASPMDA President, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe with Tresurer, Chief Cyril Anumba, Fin. Sec. Chief Iyke Ezeh inside DSS premesis directing the clearing of blocked canal earlier in the year.
Contrary to the fear that with the unprecedented level of rainfall in the last couple of days, the entire Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPMDA). Lagos International Trade fair complex will be over flooded, the effects were very minimal and well contained.
After a tour of ASPMDA by Business Hilights.ng reporters at the Trade Fair complex yesterday, it was observed that the hitherto massive impacts of flooding were reduced to very infinitesimal level unlike several years ago before the administration of the current President, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe.

Explaining in an interview on why ASPMDA was generally safe even as businesses were going on without fear of floods, he revealed that “Due to the knowledge that floods creates havocs during rainy season, my administration earlier every year, took it upon itself to clear all the serving canals around ASPMDA especially the major one that run from an outlet from ASPMDA into DSS facility down to Omonile.
“My Government earlier this year as usual, hired bulldozer and relevant machines and labourers to clear the drains and canal inside the DSS all in the efforts to make sure that ASPMDA is free from flooding this year. That is the reason why you can see everyone in his shops doing business without fear even as floods create havoc in several parts of complex and Lagos in general.
Continuing, he added that “Even as the rains are falling, my administration found it necessary to deploy emergency labourers who kept on clearing the outlet drains in ASPMDA that are blocked by solid wastes to avoid flooding in the plaza. These are clear sacrifices my administration has been doing every rainy season for the good of ASPMDA, our customers and members.
ASPMDA President further revealed that “To avoid the regular falling of trucks and trailers either coming into ASPMDA or going out of ASPMDA because of deep potholes around the Lagos Trade Fair complex ring-road, my administration without waiting for anyone including the management Board, filled ASPMDA exit route down to Police Station with stones. That is why since this year, no trailer or truck using that axis to and fro ASPMDA has fallen down.

“Let me tell you, because of the love my administration has for ASPMDA in particular, we have gone beyond our borders to perform the roles of others as far as it will be well for ASPMDA. That is leadership if you ask me and we will continue to do the best for ASPMDA without minding the distractive comments form members who take themselves as enemies of the administration.
Emechebe therefore vowed to continue to do whatever that will dignify ASPMDA and make ease of doing business possible in the plaza.
