In view of consolidating in the nation’s drive to digital innovation, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has formally assumed control of the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) infrastructure.
The handover ceremony, held in Abuja, marks a significant step in advancing digital governance through a strategic partnership between NITDA and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The NGEA initiative, a key pillar of Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0, is designed to provide a unified framework for managing government IT investments and digital resources.
It aims to ensure that technology deployment across public institutions aligns with national priorities while improving efficiency and accountability.
With the system now operational, government agencies are expected to adopt integrated digital frameworks that enable seamless data exchange and interoperability.
This approach is projected to strengthen risk management, eliminate duplication of systems, and translate policy strategies into practical digital solutions.
Business Hilights recalls that over the past two and a half years, Nigerian technical teams worked closely with Korean experts to develop a comprehensive enterprise architecture framework, establish reference models, and implement pilot programmes across key government institutions.
These include the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and NITDA.
Officials noted that the NGEA represents a shift from fragmented digital initiatives to a coordinated, citizen-focused system that enhances service delivery.
The infrastructure is hosted by Galaxy Backbone Limited, providing a secure and resilient backbone for nationwide deployment.
Looking ahead, NITDA is expected to deepen collaboration with public sector stakeholders to scale and sustain the system, while the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) will provide policy direction to support its full adoption.
The development is widely seen as a critical enabler for smarter governance and improved public service delivery, positioning Nigeria to better harness digital technologies for national development and technology innovation.
