The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, at approximately 3:30 AM on Tuesday in Kano — six days after he was sentenced to 75 years in prison in absentia over ₦33.8 billion in money laundering offences.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed the arrest at a press briefing, revealing that Mamman was found alongside two individuals who were protecting him. The house where he was arrested is currently under investigation.
Mamman was convicted for diverting billions of naira meant for the Mambilla and Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant projects — funds that were supposed to tackle Nigeria’s chronic electricity crisis.
